Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program

The Canadian federal government's initiatives to deal with the growing labour shortage through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program offers Canadian businesses a fair and effective way of meeting this problem head-on. Program regulations act to protect Canadian workers, while recognizing the very real need for foreign workers to help businesses and the economy grow. Depending upon the job classification and the demand for these workers, employers may be able to secure a foreign worker for two or more years.

The process is fair - but stringent, subject to change, and complex enough to require an in-depth understanding of them to ensure a timely and successful outcome. Mundo Sourcing’s experience and expertise in this area can save an employer time and money.

Beware of false savings!

It is a sad fact that many non-reputable foreign recruiters have sprung-up in Canada. They appear to offer low recruitment rates to employers, when in fact they only offer risk by importing workers in violation of Immigration regulations. Mundo Sourcing encourages employers to ensure that the agency they deal with is reputable and reliable.

A few important questions to ask your potential recruiting agency:

Are you directly or indirectly collecting a recruitment fee from the foreign worker? This is illegal, and is how some recruiters can offer apparent discounts. The employer may become liable for reimbursing these fees to the worker. Mundo Sourcing protects the employer by ensuring that no recruitment fees are charged to the foreign worker.
What guarantees do you offer? Once a foreign worker arrives on the job-site, it is important that this worker is qualified to do the job. The employer should be protected if the agency has misrepresented the skills or suitability of the worker. Mundo Sourcing offers its clients protection against this type of mis-representation.
Are you a licensed recruitment agency? The employer should determine this at the beginning of a relationship. While a license to practice does not guarantee the quality of the recruiter, licensing at least helps weed-out the amateurs.
